Default Locking of characters for prevention of deletion

I deleted my PvP character and it deleted my pve mesmer instead. I think that Guild WArs is retarded because there is no way to mark a character as "I NEVER WANT TO DELETE THIS".

I believe there should be a button to mark a character as Do Not Delete. Simple. I could program that myself.

Please Fix This Anet. By deleting my mesmer instead of my pvp character I have been severely put off buying Nightfall. I was planning to buy Nightfall but I think I will buy some offline game instead.

Unless your PvP character has a name all of 1 character different from your PvE mesmer, there shouldn't have been a problem. You were asked to verify by typing the character name for a reason.

Was this a trial account by any chance?

I have deleted 4-6 characters of mine during the last 6 months and have never had a problem. There is no character restoration in the game but the system makes accidental deletion fairly impossible.

You are saying that a character other than the one you typed the confirmation for was deleted?

>Highlight Character A

>Press DELETE Button

>At prompt, type character A's name

>Character B is deleted?

That would be a very serious bug, maybe it's happened to others, but it's the first time I have heard of it.

I deleted my pvp mesmer and apparently, the game doesn't know the difference between "Reptilian Wrath" and "Definite Integral". It deleted the wrong one.

I'm sure I typed the correct name in.
he is sure he typed the correct name to begin with but its Anets fault again

It was not a trial account. But what you said is correct.

You said:

This is exactly what happened.

I suggest that everyone reading this refrain from deleting ANY characters until ANET fixes this.

Holy... I feel for you... :S I'd take it up with A-Net as it is your time and money gone into that character, in a way.

I already sent in a support ticket to ANET. By the way, I was thinking about getting nightfall at first but if they dont fix this I'm NOT buying ANY MORE guild wars chapters.

Funny, when I delete a character, it deletes that character. I highly doubt that it was the game, more than likely you screwed up and won't admit it. Sorry.

No, multiple people have had this problem. When you delete a PvP character, it deletes a random PvE character sometimes. Sorry.

Lol you killed the innocent guy!!

As for locking characters i think it has a practical use. Have you ever heard a guildie crying that someone hacked his account and deleted all his characters? Well i did.
I think there should be extra passwords for deleting characters, plus an option for an untouchable character(no deletion allowed) especially if we have spend more than 4-5million to make him what it is.

i agree that he probably just screwed something up.
but, i also agree you should be able to permenanlty lock a character, or at the very least require a SEPERATE (ie, not the account password) password to delete a character that you indicate as one you dont want to be deleted.

while im sure he messed up (and even if he didnt) the idea he provided is a good one. theres no valid reason you shouldnt be able to lock chars.
maybee your brohter uses your account and deletes a char, maybee you get hacked, whatever; there are plenty of other reasons a charatcter could be brought to their demise without your explicit consent. and to be honest, theres should be a fail-safe for it.

That happened to me too, but I thought it was me that somehow I made a mistake even if I was sure I did it correctly.

Some time ago I deleted a necro PvP charcter and my monk was deleted!
They had very different names so it's not possible for me to have typed it wrong.
But I was lucky (sort of) because the monk was a mule and she had only crafting materials, dyes (no blacks ) and a few gold items on her.

Now that I know this could happen again I'm scared to even think to delete a PvP character!

I have only created one PVP character and even that was a while ago. I will not say that the OP had screwed up as there are numerous postings on this. Possible bug? Sounds like it. Fixable? Should be. Should A-Net and NC-Soft give the players back their deleted characters? I am not sure if it is possible to do that as it would require a systemwide rollback, probably ticking several million players off in the process. As on the NC-Soft customer support website "Deleted characters cannot be undeleted".
Making it so that a character cannot be deleted. I am all for this as I have several characters with thousands of hours of playtime on. Making a password to keep you from deleting characters? Good idea but how to implement, that might be tricky (how many players will use the same password they use on their account making the password useless?). Something does need done.

This sounds like a very serious bug, if your PvE character gets deleted when you try to delete your PvP character. I'm glad I only have PvE characters so far but I'm still worried that the bug could happen to them too.
Locking would definitely help with this, but I'm worried that if they have a bug like this then the danger won't go away even if you have them locked.... after all, the deletion isn't supposed to be random in the first place.

/signed for getting characters locked (would also prevent hackers from deleting your most precious characters). Hopefully Anet will also fix the bug too.

Yeah, maybe they can stick a authorization pw for deleting a character maybe?

I am closing this thread for the following reasons:

1. This suggestion has been made before, and therefore a new thread on the subject is not needed.
2. This is more of a complain about a bug than an actual suggestion thread.

Enjoy your day, folks.
